The Two-Year Anniversary of Hurricane Helene is Sunday September 27th, 2026

​

Since the storm, our three volunteer host sites have hosted dozens of teams and have enabled over 30,000 hours of volunteer labor to be put to work on rebuilding and recovery. 

​

The Presbytery has been able to offer hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants to churches and their nonprofit partners to aid survivors. 

 

This is all because of your generosity.

 

We have received so much love and time and energy and funding from our connectional church and its amazing members and partners.  

​

We are continuing to fundraise, as many thousands of neighbors still need assistance, and we continue to need volunteers into 2027. Your support is still so much appreciated. Please go to our 'donate' page for more.​

Below are some events in the region commemorating the two-year anniversary, celebrating recovery and partnership, and building preparedness.

​

September 25:

  • 8.30-10.30am: Resources for Resilience: Reflect and Connect on the two-year anniversary. At the Wrong Way River Campground - a morning of meaningful conversation, connection, and reflection. Together, we’ll learn practical tools to navigate trauma and stress after the storm and conclude with a brief community art-therapy activity. Free for any resident of WNC. September 26th:

  • 1.00-3.00pm, Covenant Community Church, Fairview: 'Stronger Together Gathering: Honoring What Was Lost. Celebrating What We Found. Sharing What We’ve Built Together' Since the Storm. See invitation and more details here.

 

September 27th:

  • ​11.00am, Marshall Presbyterian Church, 125 Main Street, Marshall NC: Rededication Service. Reconstruction is almost complete at Marshall PC and they would especially like to invite anyone who has been part of their recovery.

  • 2.00-6.00pm Burnsville Gathering: A free and open public commemoration event in downtown Burnsville (Bailey Square) with live music and special presentations. More information here.  

 

September 28th: 

  • 6.00-8.00pm, Mitchell County Church Leaders Preparedness Conversation and BBQ dinner: Mitchell County Senior Citizen Center, 152 Ledger School Road, Bakersville, NC 28705. Join county emergency leaders to learn how emergency management works in Mitchell County and how churches can help, and share your experiences during Hurricane Helene.
